Young Scholars Discovery is a two-week summer program for /rising eighth and ninth grade students/. Discovery offers four courses that encourage creative reasoning and problem solving skills. The program provides students the opportunity to:
- Explore new ideas,
- Discover career opportunities,
- Enjoy interactive seminars, field trips, and social activities, and
- Experience university life at the University of Maryland.
Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a three-week summer program for /rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. With 30 courses to select from, YSP allows students to:
- Earn 3 college credits in 3 weeks,
- Pursue academic interests,
- Explore career opportunities, and
- Experience college life at the University of Maryland.

American Stars of Teaching Program
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, this program recognizes teachers from all grade levels and disciplines who are improving student achievement, using innovative strategies in the classroom, and making a difference in the lives of their students. One teacher is recognized from each state.
Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence
The Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence recognizes excellence in K-12 science teachers. Winners of the program receive a $5,000 award; in addition, their schools receive a $5,000 award to further science-related education. It's a small way to thank science educators for furthering science in the classroom
Educational Seminars for Principals and Teachers
Offers Department of State funded grants for U.S. school teachers and administrators. Exchanges are short term, taking place during the summer, and focus on sharing of best practices and professional development.
Fulbright Teacher and Administrator Exchange Program
Sponsored by the United States Department of State, the Fulbright Teacher and Administrator Exchange Program exchanges U.S. teachers with educators in over 30 countries. Administrators can participate in six-week shadowing experiences in several countries
National School Change Awards
This award annually recognizes six schools across America for having " significantly changed." The award is an initiative of the National Principals Leadership Institute and is co-sponsored by AASA.
National Teacher of the Year Award
The National Teacher of the Year Program, a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers, began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching.
Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year
Recognize exceptional classroom social studies teachers for grades K-6, 5-8, and 7-12 who teach social studies regularly and systematically in elementary school settings, and at least half-time in middle or junior high and high school settings.
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
The White House, in conjunction with the National Science Foundation, sponsors the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the nation’s highest honor for mathematics and science teachers. Educators can recognize an outstanding colleague with a nomination for this prestigious award.
Pi Lambda Theta Awards and Scholarships
Pi Lambda Theta, the international honor society and professional association in education, offers several awards and scholarships for teachers and students.
Richard C. Bartlett Environmental Education Award
Awarded annually by the National Environmental Education Foundation to an outstanding 5th-12th grade educator who has successfully integrated environmental education into his or her daily education programs. A $5,000 cash award is provided for the recipient to continue their work in environmental education.
Teaching American History Grant Program
The program, funded under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, is designed to raise student achievement by improving teachers' knowledge and understanding of and appreciation for traditional U.S. history. Grant awards will assist local educational agencies, in partnership with entities that have content expertise, to develop, document, evaluate and disseminate innovative and cohesive models of professional development. By helping teachers to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of U.S. history as a separate subject matter within the core curriculum, these programs will improve instruction and raise student achievement.

School Counselor of the Year
Do you know a stellar school counselor who's running a comprehensive, data-driven program? The American School Counselor Association is seeking nominations for its School Counselor of the Year awards program. This program brings up to 10 finalists and their nominators to Washington, D.C., where they participate in a congressional briefing, meet their members of Congress and are honored at the School Counselor of the Year Gala. From these 10 finalists, one school counselor of the year is selected
Community Awards
100 Best Communities for Young People
Sponsored by America's Promise Alliance, the 100 Best Communities for Young People competition encourages hundreds of counties, cities and small towns to tell the nation how they make the success of their children a priority.
STOP Hunger Scholarships
The Sodexho Foundation launched the STOP Hunger Scholarships in 2007. Five students (three K-12 students and two college students) will each receive $3,000 scholarships in recognition of their fight against hunger in their communities. The hunger-related charities they work with will also receive grants from the Foundation.
PTA Healthy Lifestyles Awards
The National PTA announces a $1000 grant opportunity for PTA groups interested in promoting a project that promotes healthy lifestyles in the home, school, and community; promotes family involvement in the school; emphasizes the connection between healthy lifestyles and student achievement; and engages a diverse group of family and community members.
