Message from Kelly Doetsch
Cultural Arts Committee Chair
I have been an Arnold parent for 8 years. Arnold’s involved families inspired me to be a part. I have found ways to use my talents and interests as a volunteer at Arnold. I am the mother to four children. My youngest is in the 4th grade.
Arnold Elementary is an Anne Arundel county arts integrated school. The cultural arts program enriches the curriculum by coordinating talented artists to perform assemblies and provide instruction through residency programs. The Arnold PTA prioritizes students’ exposure to the arts. Through additional grants and fundraising through Arnold’s dance-a thon held in the spring, the cultural arts program is able to book quality talent. In the school year 2008-09, Arnold’s 4th and 5th grade hosted artist in resident Amanda Pellerin to explore the theme “change over time” through the creation of a tile mural. Other assemblies throughout the year explored world music and chemical reactions in science. The Chinese Acrobats were the highlight. The chairperson attends the Maryland State art council’s talent showcase, researches other resources, coordinates with the principal to book talent, applies for grants, and coordinates the fundraising dance-a-thon.
Sign up if you are interested in serving on the cultural arts committee.
